Kalahari Resorts & Conventions potential expansion to Allen
NEWS "SPLASH"! 🌊 The City of Allen is taking steps to support Kalahari Resorts & Conventions potential expansion to Allen! Known as the creator of America's largest indoor waterparks, the resort is being considered as a potential future use for property located at State Highway 121 and Stacy Road. The proposed Kalahari location in Allen would include a large convention center, 900+ rooms, indoor and outdoor waterparks, and hundreds of new jobs.
âť“ WHY KALAHARI?
This project presents a game-changing opportunity to boost Allen's economy and support our community through taxes paid by visitors, not homeowners. Kalahari is expected to generate $5 billion in spending during its first ten years of operation, including money spent directly at the resort and indirectly at other Allen businesses. In addition, by adding nearly $1 billion dollars in investment to a formerly-vacant property, this development would create a new, non-residential source of property tax revenue to support our city, county, school district and Collin College for decades to come.
âť“ WHAT'S NEXT?
Allen Economic Development Corporation will present lease agreements and an economic incentive package to Allen City Council during the Feb. 25 council meeting. This arrangement would allow the project to qualify for state grants while keeping options open for other potential uses if Kalahari does not move forward.
While council approval would be an important first step, Kalahari’s future in Allen isn't guaranteed. Should the project proceed, it will undergo the same rigorous review and approval process as any other development—including evaluation by City staff, public hearings, consideration by the Planning and Zoning Commission, and final approval by Allen City Council. Kalahari wants to involve residents early in the development process should the project move forward by hosting informational sessions to answer questions and ask for resident feedback.
